(Des Moines, IA) Medicap Pharmacy has donated $20,000 to Food Bank of Iowa. Between Sept. 15 and Nov. 30, 2023, participating Medicap Pharmacy locations in central Iowa administered thousands of flu vaccines, each of which helped raise funds to feed local families. The $20,000 donation will translate to nearly 31,000 meals to support Iowans facing food insecurity.
“Together with Medicap Pharmacy, we are working to improve the health and well-being of our neighbors and to create stronger communities,” said Food Bank of Iowa CEO Michelle Book. “We are thankful for Medicap’s steadfast commitment to hunger relief here at home.”
This is the seventh year that Medicap Pharmacy has partnered with Food Bank of Iowa. The two organizations share similar goals—serving our local communities and connecting them with the resources and care they need to live full, healthy lives.
"Partnering with Food Bank of Iowa each flu season is a wonderful opportunity for us,” said Rachael Renfrew, PharmD, Vice President of Operations at GRX Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of OneroRx, Inc. “Not only are we able to provide meals for Iowans facing hunger, we’re also encouraging our community to stay up-to-date on their vaccines. When patients stop into the pharmacy to receive their flu shot, we can educate them about other immunizations they may need.”
As a result of Medicap Pharmacy’s educational approach to vaccinations, they administered 32,000 vaccines last year, including flu shots, in-store and at on-site clinics.
“The health of our community is our top priority,” said Renfrew. “Making this donation to Food Bank of Iowa is just another way we’re able to provide care to those who need it.”
OneroRx operates the participating Medicap Pharmacy locations and is a leading regional provider of pharmacy and telepharmacy services, pharmaceutical products, supplements, and medical supplies to patients in underserved communities. OneroRx operates 64 pharmacies across six states, including telepharmacies, specialty pharmacies, long term care pharmacies, and a regional compounding pharmacy.
